This stunner makes a ground-hugging rosette of dark green, shiny leaves, reminiscent of a kale plant, and then sends up a quivering cloud of tiny lavender flowers in late summer. A cousin of annual statice, the flowers are much like baby’s breath, and would be lovely in bouquets if you could bare to cut them. A great plant at or near the front edge of the garden, it’s only about 2’ tall at flowering.
